Skylar Speer

A Fourth-Generation Legacy

A fourth-generation Iowan, Skylar grew up on his family’s farm near Patterson. His deep-rooted connection to the land and its wildlife eventually led him to Iowa State University, where he pursued his passion for animal science at veterinary school. It was there that he met his wife, and together they have become staples of the local professional community as the owners and operators of Summit Animal Hospital in Winterset.

From a 7th Grade Christmas to the Competition Range

Skylar’s obsession with archery began in the 7th grade when he found a Fred Bear bow under the Christmas tree. That gift sparked a lifelong pursuit of the sport. He spent his formative years honing his craft in the archery shops of Winterset and De Soto, becoming a familiar face at 3D shoots across the region.

For Skylar, archery isn’t just a pastime; it’s a tradition of precision and patience that has stayed with him from his youth through his professional career.

Building a Family Tradition

Outside of the clinic and the range, Skylar and his wife are kept busy by their three sons. Between school and a non-stop schedule of youth sports, the family is always on the move. It was Skylar’s desire to share his love for the bow with his boys—and to provide a dedicated space for other local families to do the same—that served as the catalyst for Summit Bowrack.
